How to become a ForBio member?
To become a ForBio member you must be registered as a graduate student or hired as a postdoctoral fellow in a biology program at a Nordic university or research institute. You are also expected to present your research project and progress in the annual ForBio meeting. Please complete the form to apply for membership. If you do not fulfill the criteria above, you can be registered as a ForBio associate to participate in our courses and other activities. You will, however, have to cover the travel and accommodation costs yourself. Please complete the form to become a ForBio associate. Who can participate in ForBio activities?
The research school mainly targets PhD students and postdocs at Nordic universities working with biosystematics. The courses and annual meetings are also open to others who want to broaden their expertise. Unless you are a PhD student or a postdoc, you must be able to document that you have sufficient background knowledge to follow a course. Members of the research school will be prioritized if courses fill up.
Are there any costs connected to participate in a course?
Most courses are free to all participants. The research school will cover travel costs from the home university and accommodation for Norway-based ForBio members. Other ForBio members as well as associates (see “How to become a ForBio member”) will have to arrange and pay for their own transportation and accommodation. Please note that the university insurance covers ForBio members only, not associates.
Will my university grant course credits for ForBio course participation?
ForBio will provide you with a certificate upon completion of a course. This is usually sufficient for non-Norwegian PhD students that are granted course credits by their examinator. Norwegian students may need to apply for "hospitant status", i.e., become a visiting PhD student at the university where the course is given. If this is the case, we will inform you about this in the course information. For international students, we will try to provide you with all necessary information, so please contact your administration and let us know what kind of information and certificate(s) you need.
In what language are the courses taught?
English is the official teaching language of all courses.
